The Sea of the EU’s Outermost Regions – The potential of the Blue Economy
The outermost regions’ maritime space is a considerable asset for employment, economic activity, and development, which should be protected and exploited.
The blue economy, described as one of the main assets of the ORs in the EC Communication of 24 October 2017, offers great potential for growth and employment in the European Union, particularly for the outermost regions, because it strengthens the European maritime dimension and plays a key role in international ocean governance, a clear and unavoidable development opportunity for the ORs.
Indeed, the ORs are exceptional natural laboratories for innovative technologies and for the development of flagship projects in this field that can be exported to other regions.
